UMD DRIVE - The plastic door on the back of the PSP can break
off or the internal metal door can become bent out of shape and
not close properly. The UMD's themselves may also try to pop
back out. The internal laser and disc motor can break or wear
out causing disc read error or no response to a UMD being
inserted. Check that your UMD's are in good shape also, the
clear plastic should not be loose and should sit perfectly flush to
the outer white plastic ring.
R-TRIGGER/MAIN CABLE
Connects the motherboard to
the power switch PCB.
Pressure sensitive R-trigger
pad can become worn and
stop responding or show
"always on". Cable can be
damaged in a fall causing no
power and/or eccentric button
reactions throughout the PSP.
POWER SWITCH PCB -
The switch itself can break
off causing no power and
a loose feeling in the
external slider switch.
Internal connection can
break causing no power
and the pressure sensitive
action buttons can
become worn and stop
responding. See the
PSP power problems page
for more detailed
information.
BUTTON BAR CABLE - Non-functioning buttons can be
caused by damage from a fall, excessive pressure, a
faulty power switch PCB, or an ill-fitting faceplate.

____Shipping Instructions____
(1) Fill out the form to the left and click submit.
(2) Package the PSP up well. Any sturdy box will do and allow room for at least two inches of padding all around the console. Bubble wrap is a great packaging material but wadded up plastic bags or newspaper works fine too. Just make sure the PSP isn't going to bang around inside the box or get crushed during transit. Whatever you do don't just show up at the post office, PSP in hand, and hope to use their packaging materials as they're by far the most expensive vendor of such things.
(3) You don't have to send the battery, charger, memory card, or whatever unless you want me to test them out too. If you have a UMD loading problem though please send along any one game/movie/demo that's not loading so I can be sure to reproduce the problem when it gets here.
(4) Make sure your contact info is shown somewhere on or in the box and mail it to:
PSP Repair Service 2529 SW 25th Oklahoma City OK 73108
You can use any service that you like, post office, Fedex, UPS or whoever you prefer and I'll email you as soon as it arrives so you'll know that it got here safely. If you're mailing a check along with the PSP please make it out to "PSP Repair Service".
Just a note, if you're using the USPS and you buy postal insurance for the trip here there's no need to pay extra for delivery confirmation. It's basically just duplicating information already covered by the insurance but they usually won't tell you that at the counter.
Postal insurance for the return trip is not included in quoted prices. If you would like me to insure the PSP for the return trip I can do so at cost. Please include an extra $2.70 for $200 worth of postal insurance and put a note in with the PSP requesting insurance.
Once your PSP is received I'll send you an email saying so and a few days later I'll email again with what I found, what repair options there are, and how much it'll cost to fix. If the repair hasn't already been paid for I'll also send an invoice, payable online, for the total repair charge. You can pay the online invoice by credit/debit card, eCheck or Paypal, or you can ignore it and mail a check, whichever you prefer. Diagnosis is 100% free so if it turns out to cost more than you expected or if you just change your mind there's no charge for my time checking the PSP over and giving you a quote. If you just want it back as-is please mail a check for $8.10 to cover return postage via USPS Priority Mail. If for any reason though it turns out that I just flat can't fix it I'll pay for the return postage and none of it will cost you a cent.

L-TRIGGER/DIRECTIONAL PAD CABLE -
Pressure sensitive cable can become worn
causing no reaction or show "always on". An
ill-fitting faceplate can also cause the
directional buttons to activate the ANALOG
STICK actions and/or cause eccentric
response from the directional buttons
themselves.
ANALOG STICK - Shaft can snap
off, internals can break causing
a grinding feel to the stick, or the game
character will be stuck travelling in one
direction only. An ill-fitting faceplate can
cause eccentric behavior also.
LCD SCREEN and backlight.
A broken LCD screen can look
like it has spiderweb cracks,
blacked out areas on the
screen, or an all black screen.
A broken backlight will show a
black screen but you can still
faintly see the picture if you
hold the PSP up to a light at
just the right angle.
On the home page and further down on this page there's a picture of a PSP with references to
the various components and what can go wrong. Most are self explanatory and it's usually pretty
easy to figure out which repair you'll need and how much it'll cost in the end. The following is a
quick breakdown of the most common things that can go wrong with a PSP and at the bottom of
the page there's shipping instructions and a form to submit if you decide to have me handle the
problem. Please note though that the form is just to give me an idea of what's wrong rather than
a specific request. When a PSP comes in I go over it completely regardless of what's shown on
the submission form so it's no big deal if you pick the wrong thing. The initial repair request is
just a starting point for me and a good indication of the final repair cost for you.

UMD DOOR REPLACEMENT - PSP-1001 $59 - PSP-2001/3001 $69
Sometimes the PSP will take an awkward fall and the exterior plastic UMD door can break off or just come halfway out. Unfortunately you can't just put another one on there without taking the PSP apart as there are internal 'security' screws to prevent this from happening. Inside the plastic UMD door is the metal UMD holder, either a cage or an "H" , and/or and "X" bracket, depending on which model you have. These can also come undone or get bent out of shape which means the UMD might not stay put when you insert it or the door may not close properly. Occasionally the door is OK but the rear casing of the PSP is broken but even so no matter what's going on back there it's the same price. The $59 covers the new part or parts, labor, PSP maintenance check, professional internal cleaning* and return USPS Priority mail shipping. Original Sony parts only - no cheap "Made in Taiwan" copies.
|
R-TRIGGER / MAIN CABLE REPLACEMENT - PSP-1001 $59 - PSP-2001/3001 - $69
As opposed to the clear R-trigger itself which is just a button, the pressure sensitive cable underneath can become worn and either stop responding or show as "always on". This same cable also connects the motherboard to the power switch PCB. It can get crushed, breaking a contact or the connections can just come loose. Though not an expensive part it's a very important one. A malfunctioning main cable can cause no power to the PSP (no green light and no start up), as well as erratic button behavior throughout the PSP and game loading problems. The good thing is that all the different button cable replacements are the same price including this one so if it turns out to be the culprit the cost of replacement stays the same. Prices include the new part, labor, PSP maintenance check, professional internal cleaning* and return USPS Priority Mail shipping. Original Sony parts only - no copies.

|
L-TRIGGER / DIRECTIONAL PAD CABLE REPLACEMENT - PSP-1001 $59 - PSP-2001/3001 $69
Same as the R-trigger, the pressure sensitive pad can become worn and either stop responding or show as "always on". This cable also has pressure sensitive pads for the directional buttons. Please note though that if pressing the directional buttons activates the analog stick functions the problem is most likely with an ill-fitting faceplate rather than a faulty cable. All prices include the new part, labor, PSP maintenance check, professional internal cleaning* and return USPS Priority Mail shipping. Original Sony parts - no poorly made copies.
|
ANALOG JOYSTICK ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT - PSP-1001 $59 - PSP-2001 $59 - PSP-3001 $69
This is the most common repair of all. The analog or joystick is used in pretty much every game ever made and they do take a beating. It consists of the outer round thumbpad which pushes down onto the plastic stem part of the internal analog stick assembly. Usually either the stem will break or the internal components will wear out giving the joystick a 'grinding' feel to it and/or the character in the game will run in the wrong direction or not at all. The $59 includes an entire new analog assembly, labor, PSP maintenance check, professional internal cleaning* and return USPS Priority Mail shipping. Top quality original parts only.

BUTTON BAR CABLE REPLACEMENT - PSP-1001 $59 - PSP-2001/3001 $69 - FREE SHIPPING
Sometimes these buttons get pressed a little too hard too often and the pressure sensitive pads stop responding or behave erratically. This one is also liable to malfunction if the faceplate isn't sitting just right so if your's has been messed with please check that it's properly installed before looking at cable replacement. Also, a problem with the power switch PCB or the R-trigger/main cable can cause the button bar to malfunction but even so it'd still be the same price to get it fixed no matter which one's the culprit. Original Sony parts only - no cheap "Made in Taiwan" copies.

|
LCD SCREEN REPLACEMENT - $59 (PSP-1001) OR (PSP-2001/3001) - $89 - FREE SHIPPING
Very common and very fixable even though it doesn't look like it judging from the smashed up look on the screen. The good news is that there's rarely anything else wrong other than the broken screen and getting it fixed is a great deal compared to giving up and buying a new one. Top quality original parts only.

UMD DRIVE DISC READING PROBLEMS - PSP-1001 $59 - PSP-2001/3001 $69
Quite often a PSP stops reading the UMD discs properly or acts like it doesn't even recognise there's one inserted. The first thing to do is check that your UMD games/movies are in good shape. The clear plastic covers should sit exactly flush with the outer white plastic part and shouldn't be loose or pushed in at all. The disc itself should be clean and scratch free. If the games are in good shape there's several different things that can cause a disc reading problem. It may be that the UMD laser is worn out, the UMD motors aren't operating properly, the UMD trigger is broken/missing, or there may even be a foreign object wedged in there somewhere. Regardless of which UMD drive problem you're having I can have it fixed up and reading good as new $69 which includes the new parts, labor, PSP maintenance check, professional internal cleaning and return USPS Priority Mail shipping.

MOTHERBOARD REPLACEMENT - PSP-1001 $79 PSP-2001/3001 $109 - ORIGINAL SONY BRAND PART
This is usually what you need if the PSP got wet and corrosion has set in or if it's taken a particularly bad fall and the motherboard's been broken. Quite often though a water damaged PSP can be cleaned up and saved if you get it taken care of in time so even if your's appears completely dead it's still well worth having it checked out. Please click here for more water damage info. If you do have to have the motherboard replaced after all the above prices include the new parts, labor, PSP maintenance check, professional internal cleaning and return USPS Priority Mail shipping.
|
MOTHERBOARD FIRMWARE REPLACEMENT - $49 - ANY MODEL - FREE SHIPPING
If you've become victim to a bad update replacing the firmware should be all you need to get your PSP up and running again good as new. Unfortunately this happens all the time but on the positive side it is relatively easy to fix nowadays as opposed to replacing the whole motherboard like we had to in the past. A corrupted update will cause the green power light on the PSP to turn on for about 15 seconds and shut itself back off but nothing comes up on the screen and there's no start up music or any other signs of life at all. The orange charge light will still show if you plug it in but that's it. Please keep in mind though that if the green light just blinks for a fraction of a second you're most likely dealing with a short somewhere rather than a firmware problem. The $49 includes the new firmware, labor, PSP maintenance check, professional internal cleaning* and return USPS Priority Mail shipping.
|
LABOR ONLY REPAIRS - $49 - ANY MODEL - FREE SHIPPING
If you've already purchased a replacement part for your PSP and just need it installed it's $49 regardless of which part it is. Sometimes people have a go at fixing their PSP themselves and can't quite get Humpty back together again which is also no problem and there's no extra charge for sending in a partially disassembled PSP. If you're stuck somewhere in the middle of a repair and don't know what to do next please just leave it like it is and I'll take care of it. It's easy to do some pretty major permanent damage in certain circumstances so sometimes it's far better to just stop where you are rather than risk making things worse. If it ends up needing extra parts I'll email with the options along with a proper quote and you can decide what to do from there. The $49 includes labor, PSP maintenance check, professional internal cleaning and return USPS Priority Mail shipping.

SOUND PROBLEMS WI-FI/MEMORY CARD/HEADPHONE PCB REPLACEMENT - PSP-1001- $59 PSP-2001/3001 $79
If you have no sound from either the external speakers or the headphone jack, the memory card doesn't read or the wi-fi won't work this is probably what you need. All three models have an entirely different internal set up but the price is the same regardless of which type of PCB or jack you have. The $69 includes the new part(s), labor, PSP maintenance check, professional internal cleaning* and return USPS Priority Mail shipping. Original top quality Sony brand parts are used for all our repairs. No third-party copies ever.
|
CHARGER SOCKET REPLACEMENT - PSP-1001 $59 PSP-2001/3001 $69 - FREE SHIPPING
The charger socket is the yellow plastic with a metal pin inside where you plug the AC adaptor/charger in. Quite often the internal metal pin gets stuck inside the charger plug and breaks off which means you can't charge the PSP battery any more. Fortunately this is a fairly simple repair and the $59 covers the new part, labor, PSP maintenance check, professional internal cleaning* and return USPS Priority Mail shipping. New Sony brand chargers are available for $15 on the PSP Parts page.

BUTTON BAR CABLE - Get's worn over time or damaged in a fall.
"HOME" button will often actuate in the middle of a game or the
volume buttons will stop working.
PRICING All prices include parts (if any), labor, PSP maintenance check, professional internal cleaning and return shipping
via USPS Priority Mail to anywhere in the USA.
WARRANTY All repairs/replacements are warrantied for 6 months. That means the replaced or repaired part will work
perfectly when you get it back and will continue to do so for 6 months. Please note though that if the LCD screen gets smashed
again or the analog stick gets snapped off I can't offer a warranty on that type of thing.
TURNAROUND Turnaround time varies of course but most repairs are completed within 5-7 days of receipt and
mail-in-quotes follow the same timeline. Once I've gone over your PSP properly I'll email to let you know what I found, what
the repair options are and how much it'll cost. At that point you can mail a check/money order or pay instantly online with a
credit/debit card, eCheck or Paypal. If for any reason you change your mind and decide you don't want it fixed after all thats
perfectly OK too as diagnosis is a 100% free service. Once payment comes through I use USPS Priority mail for shipping your
PSP back to you. This service usually takes 2-3 days to most everywhere in the US so your PSP won't be out of your hands
for long. MYSTERY REPAIRS If you don't know what's wrong with your PSP that's fine too. Just use the form below and
check the "Mail-in quote" box to let me know it's coming and I'll email you with my findings and a proper quote when it gets
here. This service is completely free and if for any reason you choose not to have your PSP repaired after all you'd only owe
me $8.10 for return postage.
*PROFESSIONAL INTERNAL CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE CHECK Every PSP I work on get's a very thorough going over.
There are several different components and connections that tend to wear out or corrode over time, just by being used. Fouled
contacts for instance can cause your PSP to completely seize up or cause strange button responses. Also, I can tell by looking
at it if the analog assembly is getting ready to give out or if the battery isn't making proper contact due to a tweaked rear
casing. The added service of cleaning and/or replacing the contacts, cleaning all the lint and dirt out of the UMD drive,
cleaning the soda pop out from around the buttons and so forth will save you having to send the PSP off again later on just to
deal with these fiddly little problems. I do appreciate your business but I don't want to do a repair and then you have some
new problem with it a month later when I can easily take care of a lot of things while I have it here. I use only the best Sony
original parts and do everything I can to make sure your PSP keeps on working and looks it's best also. Cleaning all the
contacts, minor component/button replacement, and cleaning the PSP inside and out is a free service along with all standard
repairs. If the analog assembly looks like it's on it's last leg or something else is visibly going awry I'll email to let you know
and if you want to you then have the option to pay a little extra now rather than top dollar later on.
Lastly, if you'd like a quote without sending the PSP in, you can send me an email and I'll give it my best shot to give a firm
quote without seeing the console. Please understand though that there are a lot of folks out there trying to figure out what's
wrong with their PSP and I'd have hundreds of calls a day to answer diagnosing over the phone so please email instead and
I'll get back to you as quickly as possible. To send me an email you can just click this link: LBrown@psprepairservice.com
